Start and Launch a Game in Discord

Create a Discord game on the website, activate it with /games and play by voting in your channel.

Last updated About 1 hour ago

Once your server is connected, you create a Discord game on the aiga_ website and then activate it from Discord. From there, the story is posted in your channel and everyone votes on what happens next.

Before you start

  • Your server is linked to aiga_ (the bot is added and /setup is done). If not, follow Connect Discord to aiga_ first.

  • You have the Administrator or Manage Server permission in the server. Only admins can activate and control games.

1. Create the game in aiga_

  1. Click Create Game_. Under How will you play?, choose Discord (1). It says Ready to play once your server is linked; Connect to enable means it isn’t yet.

The How will you play? screen with the Discord card highlighted
  2. Pick a world from My Worlds or Shared Worlds and click Next.

  3. Choose how illustrated the story should be. Each card shows the credit cost per turn. As the game’s creator, you pay for the turns; on a paid plan, text turns are included. You can change this later in the game settings.

  4. If you picked pictures and one of your own worlds, choose an art style and a hero picture next.

  5. On the last step, name the game and set how voting works:

The Discord launch settings: Maximum Voting Time, Maximum Vote Count, Posting Mode and Event Text Length, numbered 1 to 4

Setting

What it does

1. Maximum Voting Time

How long each vote stays open, from 1 minute to 24 hours (15 minutes by default).

2. Maximum Vote Count

Voting closes as soon as this many votes are in. Your plan sets the highest number you can pick.

3. Posting Mode

Auto-Post shares each new event straight away. Manual Review lets you check and approve each event before it’s posted.

4. Event Text Length

Short (TLDR) posts a quick hook; Full Narrative posts the longer story text.

Voting closes when the time runs out or the vote count is reached, whichever comes first. At least one vote is needed after the timer ends for the story to move on.

  1. Click Launch Game_. The game is created as Pending: nothing is posted until you activate it in Discord.

2. Activate it in Discord

  1. Go to the channel where the game should run and type /games.

The Games Menu from /games, showing the Pending category
  2. Click ⏳ Pending and pick your game.

  3. Click 🚀 Activate Game.

  4. The bot confirms that activation started, and the first story event is posted in the channel.

These menus are only visible to you, so you can run /games in a busy channel without anyone else seeing it.

3. Play

Each event is posted with numbered buttons, one per choice. Anyone in the channel can click one to vote; each person has one vote per event.

Under the choices you’ll find:

  • 📊 Voting Status: how the votes stand right now

  • 🎯 Progression: the story’s current phase

  • 📊 Stats: the hero’s stats, traits, items and location

  • 📰 News: recent news from the world

  • 📖 View Game: open the game on the aiga_ website

To pause, resume or unstick a game, run /games again and open the game. See Discord Commands and Troubleshooting.
